Central Region Driver of the Year 2012

With great fanfare we recognized Mark Byrd at our 2013 Kickoff in Columbus, OH.  I know you were as proud as we were to be a part of such a great award.  Mark and his beautiful family were a pleasure to get to know.  Professionals like Mark make our region and our company something to be proud of every day.

Membership Slumps in 2012

Our nation's labor unions saw declines in overall membership last year.  This downturn was led by losses in the public sector in both state and local government.  Union membership fell from 11.8% to 11.3%, the lowest level since the 1930's.

The total union membership fell almost 400,000 workers, to approximately 14.4 million members.  More than half of the losses were seen in government jobs such as teachers, firefighters, and public administrators.  But, unions also saw losses in the private sector, even as the economy expanded mildly.

Unions  have steadily lost membership since the peak in the 1950's, when roughly 1 in 3 workers was in a union.

Central Region December 2012 Driver of the Month

Richard Isom is one enthusiastic driver! He transferred to the Champion Windows account from Home Depot Monroe in November of 2012. From the moment Richard joined the team at Champion, he has demonstrated an I’ll do anything mentality. One example of this was when Richard teamed up with a fellow driver in order to complete a 5,000 mile run in order to meet the requested delivery date. Richard's experience working as a yard spotter at Home Depot has come in handy as well. He volunteers to help with trailer moves between facilities at Champion when needed, and does so safely and efficiently. Richard will constantly ask am I doing good for ya? He takes great pride in his work.

Most recently, while Champion production was down for the holidays, Richard volunteered to leave out Christmas night in order to be at Family Dollar Morehead the next morning to help with surge. Richard gladly supported Family Dollar for two weeks with no issues.
Finally, Richard cares about safety. During his tenure with J.B. Hunt he has proven this by remaining collision and injury free. He hasn't encountered a single preventable incident in the last year. He takes great pride in these accomplishments. In December he received a positive observation completed by his AM. He is constantly aware of the accounts safety streaks and enjoys talking with management about collision and injury prevention. It’s evident that he is passionate about safety and cares how the account performs.

Please join us in congratulating Richard Isom as our Central Region December 2012 Driver of the Month.  Richard will receive $500 and a specialty plaque in his honor.
